Installation

Install uze, set up your agents, and keep it current

A shell with no uze: the one-line installer downloads and verifies the release, uze setup claude installs Claude Code, and uze workspace opens the workspace with a first agent.
One line to install, one to set up an agent, one to open the workspace.
curl -fsSL https://uze.sh/i | sh

x86_64 or aarch64, glibc or musl. The installer verifies the release checksum and installs into ~/.local/bin.

Set up your agents

uze setup

It finds the coding agents on your machine and offers to install the missing ones through each vendor's official installer. Pick the ones you use.

You can also skip this step. When the workspace opens, it sets up every agent already on your machine that is not set up yet, without asking and without updating it. It asks which to install only when your machine has none.

Some installers put the agent in a directory your current shell does not search yet. uze setup still verifies it there, tells you where it is, and reminds you to open a new shell before running it by name. An agent already installed is updated through its own update command instead.

uze setup never edits your shell's startup file. The shims it creates are for the workspace, which puts them first on PATH in its own panes. If an earlier uze added a # >>> uze shims path >>> block to your .bashrc, .zshrc or config.fish, uze no longer manages it: delete it by hand if you want your own shells to stop putting the shims first.

Staying current

Updates come on their own: the workspace checks for a new release when it opens and every hour after, and tells you when one is installed; restart to use it. uze upgrade does the same on demand.

Removing uze

  1. Take every plugin off your agents, while uze is still here:

uze status -m # the plugins on this machine
uze remove <plugin> -m # once per plugin
  2. Stop the workspace in each project where you opened it: uze workspace stop.

  3. In each project, delete agents.yaml, agents.lock and .worktrees/ if you no longer want them, and the uze:begin … uze:end blocks in AGENTS.md.

  4. Delete the binary and uze's home:

    rm ~/.local/bin/uze
    rm -rf ~/.uze

On Windows, the installer does it, and takes uze off your Path:

    & ([scriptblock]::Create((irm https://uze.sh/i))) -Uninstall -Purge

Leave out -Purge to keep ~\.uze.

The agents themselves stay installed; remove them the way their vendor says.
